APIC-MCT Cooperation Project
Chuuk, FSM Coral Reef Monitoring Project Support

In particular, the aid from APIC was used for workshops, learning events, and training sessions; additionally, APIC received a report that the money is used on an ongoing basis for boat engine fuel for monitoring the coral reefs, admission fees, meal expenses, the purchasing of diving equipment, etc.
CCS is a leading conservation NGO in Chuuk which received its certification in 2005. It supports its community by sustainably monitoring the protection of sea and land heritage sites.
There were three goals of this coral reef monitoring project. 1. To provide a coral reef monitoring system to the Chuuk community, 2. To strengthen the cooperative system between the marine sanctuary monitoring organization, and 3. To improve the competence and networking of those involved in the region’s conservation efforts by providing a chance to interact through the actual monitoring of the coral reefs.
The main goal of this project is to give each of the leaders an opportunity to think about what their roles are in resource protection and ecosystem management by connecting with different communities. Through APIC’s support, CCS will be able to continue to hold regular meetings regarding resource protection policies and their implementation.
