The Second Summer Program for Students of Sophia University / Junior College Division at College of Micronesia -

Sophia University and Sophia University Junior College Division conducted the second "Micronesian Intercultural Experience Tour" from September 11 to 18 in which eight students participated.


 This summer program was based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Sophia University, Sophia University Junior College Division, and Junior College of Micronesia. The Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation (APIC) has been supporting from the stage of preparing the MoU. We dispatched one director and one staff member to this tour and discussed with Micronesia including future program design.

 Students visited Pompei where the capital city of Federated States of Micronesia Parikir is located. While the students stayed at the dormitory of Junior college of Micronesia, they participated in the class and communicated with local students.Then they went sightseeing the ruins of Nan Mador,which was registered with UNESCO would heritage and also visited Japan embassy in Micronesia.

 President Hiroshi Yamamoto of Sophia University Junior College made a lecture on "Higher Education in Japan" of Micronesia junior collge.The local students interested in Japan and the educational system in Japan attended and listened to the lecture seriously.

 This year is the second year where APIC conducted the program made which Japanese students visit Micronesia .In November, four students from Junior College of Micronesia in turn visited Japan and studied at Sophia University Junior College Division and Reitaku University.These programs will lead to the realization of “Exchange of Students” which is stipulated in the MOU. In order to further promote students exchanges between Japan and Micronesia, APIC will continue to support.
